MyCancerPlan Journeys

a stylized quote mark for a story about breast cancer
In 2016, I underwent a lumpectomy after a suspicious finding in my annual mammogram. After surgery and follow-up treatment, I hoped the worst was behind me. However, eight years later, another lump appeared on the same side. My surgeon recommended a double mastectomy, which was terrifying to hear. Unsure of what to do, I turned to MyCancerPlan.

Their process guided me through gathering and organizing crucial information, seeking expert opinions, and undergoing necessary additional tests, including molecular testing on my biopsy. I discovered that my cancer could be effectively treated with a lumpectomy by an expert breast surgeon. Though initially concerned about costs, MyCancerPlan helped me find an in-network expert breast surgeon nearby. My surgery lasted an hour, and I returned home the same night. Now on the road to recovery, I realize the importance of informed decision-making and regular screenings. If I can navigate this journey, so can you.

MyCancerPlan Journeys

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in July 2021, I know first hand how scary it is to hear, "You have cancer." My experience and frustration led to the creation of MyCancerPlan. I wanted to help people reduce the fear around a cancer diagnosis, explain necessary diagnostic steps, help build a treatment plan, and encourage you to be your own advocate. My journey involved PSA tests, MRI, and a Fusion biopsy, with the support of a knowledgeable team. I chose radiation therapy and experienced challenges but ultimately found the strength to keep going.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does MyCancerPlan cost?

MyCancerPlan has been built to support patients in their fight against cancer, there is no cost to use the platform.

How do I get started?

Send us a quick note and we will get you up and running quickly. We make taking control of your journey and organizing your strategy simple, and are excited to have you join our community.

Isn’t my doctor in charge of building my strategy?

Your doctor is integral to your treatment plan, and medical advice is fundamental in shaping your plan. What most people do not understand when they begin their cancer journey is that it is “advice”, and all decisions are ultimately made by the patient.

We’ve learned over our years that it is common for patients to make choices without access to important facts or information, often without even knowing that is the case. MyCancerPlan provides the extra layer of support to help you take control of your journey with confidence and clarity.

I have seen multiple doctors and my information is in many different places. What should I do?

This is very common. Patient portals in healthcare are rarely easy to navigate and do not share with each other. It is common for faxes, CDs and mail to be used to transfer information - we have seen them all!

MyCancerPlan eliminates these delays and confusion and your profile provides a secure and centralized location to collect, organize and control all of your medical information. Your MyCancerPlan timeline will automatically update as you add new information, helping you to track and understand your journey. Once you have all of your information in your timeline, you can securely share it with health care providers, efficiently and securely and with no delays.

How do the steps in MyCancerPlan help me?

One of the biggest challenges in a cancer journey is trying to figure out what to do, at a time when fear and complexity are very real issues to overcome.

There are five steps involved in building a MyCancerPlan, and the steps are key to helping you gain control and build confidence. Rather than rushing to solve everything at once and “just doing something” you are able to understand the process and build your strategy one step at a time.

What does “different standards of care” mean?

When a person hears about cancer, there are always certain institutions and names that come to mind as “the best place to go”. What most people do not know is that only 15% of people with cancer go to those places.

85% of people go to the place close to their home, in their local town. where the level of resources and knowledge vary significantly. Sometimes what is locally available is based on a standard of care that is decades old. MyCancerPlan makes it possible for any person to understand the steps and knowledge necessary to identify the very the best possible care for themselves.
